maple leaves and thanksgiving

... the Canadian Thanksgiving season is a whole month and half earlier than the US. takes a little getting used to Thanksgiving before Halloween, but it's here this weekend! The coincidental thing is that it's also the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival this weekend, how confusing. And what a lot to celebrate, hehehe... I get to eat mooncakes and do the Chinese thing on Saturday with a few million other Chinatown-goers, and then turn around on Monday and have turkey along with the Canadians. my poor tummy, it'll be so confused.

anyways, no other updates on the condo hunt so far... we're still looking. the same snooty realty company had another listing that we wanted to view yesterday and they stood us up! literally, the nerve of them! if they weren't listing some of the nicest properties in Toronto, i would SO boycott them and write the president a nasty message. however, the owner/president is also the same guy who stood us up... so we're in a Catch-22. he's notorious for his bad sales attitude, no wonder his staff takes their cue from him. it's just license to be as obnoxious as possible. but we have to suck it up if we want a modern condo - he seems to have a near-monopoly of the area we want to live in. i'm so disappointed that we seem to have no recourse. maybe we'll start considering other areas. we've even heard horror stories about his responses to complaints - he just tells people to get a life. whatttt?!

on a brighter note, i'd like to go see the new Scorcese movie out this weekend... The Departed. It's based on one of my all-time favorite Chinese movies called Infernal Affairs (a series of 3 actually). Can't wait to see how the Hollywood version compares to the Hong Kong cult classic... seems to have followed the original script faithfully, but it'll be totally weird to see Jack Nicholson and Matt Damon in those familiar roles. Plenty of double takes and ah-ha moments to look forward to!

have a wonderful weekend... it's a long holiday here in Canada! :-)

oops, false alarm

ah well... the offer didn't work out after all. the place was overpriced and undersized. that darn seller, he's just as snooty as his real estate agent. they can both rot in their little mouldy corners... ;-( *sulk* they were totally uncooperative and high-falutin about the value of the place, the uber quality renovations, yada yada yada. give me a break, it's not worth that much (who are they trying to hustle, we've been keeping tabs on designer kitchens that we can't afford for WAY too long!)

i'm consoling myself that it's nearing the end of warm weather so we'll see how many other respectable offers he gets. he needs to work for it - let him sit and wait for that next offer to come in, if it ever does. frankly, i don't see many people willing to meet his number - more power to them if they want to be fleeced. even so, i'm quite detached about someone else snagging the unit, it's fine either way... gives us more chance to shop around, hee hee!

but if it starts getting cold and this place is still on the market, maybe we'll try again. the sound of their chattering teeth during our frigid winter (exposed to the elements while they conduct more viewings) might knock some sense into her Burberry-wrapped head... oh yes, did i mention the real estate agent is a dragon lady with an annoying snooty attitude?! how does she ever retain clients with that attitude?... they deserve each other.
